Hayfield Pre-School opened its doors in September 2016. We are currently running from a classroom within Hayfield Cross School. We have an ethos of open ended discovery based play, with a strong emphasis on each child’s individual self-esteem and independence skills, preparing them to move onto School.

Opening hours

Term time only

08:30- 15:15

We take children from their third birthday.

Meet our Team:

Our manager Amy Wadlow is level 3 qualified and has 11 years of experience, working within early years; from a Family worker to managing a Pre-School. I believe that childhood is precious, and every child should be nurtured and given the opportunity to fly and our Pre-School environment enables our children to do this. We work closely alongside our families to ensure that their children’s needs are at the heart of what we do.

Our Deputy Manager Alysha Edmunds is level 4 qualified , her last role was managing the day to day running of a busy private day nursery. I am looking forward to watching the community grow around the Pre-School and being part of the amazing journey.

Our level 3 practitioner Katherine Asplin is also our SENCO. Katherine has gained a wealth of experience in early years from an early years practitioner to a Specialist nursery nurse working at Northampton’s child development center. My passion is exploratory sensory play, which are part of every session!

Lizzy Dolan-Holland has a foundation degree In Early Years and has joined us from a children center. ‘I feel parent partnerships are important, I love sharing observations, moments of magic and pictures with Parents!’.

Rachel Armour is a level 3 practitioner, who has a wealth of experience in early years from a term time only Pre-school to most recently a full day care nursery. ‘I’m excited to be part of such an experienced team!’.

Our Pre-School ethos

Hayfield Pre-School aims to provide a happy safe and constructive environment in which each child can grow and develop. We believe that childhood is precious. We believe that for children play is ‘real work’ it is the fundamental business of childhood which we nurture through our child-centered planning. We free-flow throughout our sessions allowing the children the opportunity to take risks in the environment, safe in the knowledge that they will be supported by our attentive staff, this process allows children to develop higher level problem solving skills.

We aim to:

  • Support and advance the development and education of all the children within our setting, with open ended discovery based play.
  • Provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment, which is tailored to each child’s individual needs.
  • Ensure equality for all children whatever their home/family circumstances, gender, race, culture, religion, means, ability, individual preferences or special education needs and disability.
  • Identify each individual child’s needs and tailor the curriculum through our child centered planning, ensuring every child reaches their full potential.
  • We Work closely with families in order to let their child really fly.

How we provide for your child’s development and learning

At Hayfield Pre-School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which is a play-led curriculum for children from birth to 5 years of age covering 7 different areas of development. These areas of development contain 3 Prime area and 4 specific areas.

Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

These Prime areas are the most essential to your child’s healthy development and future learning.

As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are;

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world; and
  • Expressive arts and design.

Key Person

Our setting uses the Key Person approach, this means that each practitioner has a group of children whom they are particularly responsible. Your child’s Key Person will be the person who works with you to ensure your child’s particular interests and needs. , they will be your first point of contact. When your child first starts they will help them to settle and throughout your child time with us the Key Person will undertake detailed observations and assessment’s of your child to ensure that we are providing the very best for your child.

You will know who your child’s key person is before they start at Pre-School and be given a photo of them so you can talk about them with your child to aid them settling into Pre-School.

Planning

We plan our activities to meet individual child’s needs and interests. In our eyes ‘each child is unique’ and with this in mind we ensure that our planning responds to their needs. We study the ways in which a child engages with other people and their environment (characteristics of effective learning), it is through understanding these traits that we are able to support learning and development across all areas and support the child to grow as an effective and motivational learner.

Assessment

Your child’s Key person completes an online learning journey, which is added to throughout their time at Pre-School. This online journal will be accessed by you via a mobile app. (see parents information regarding Tapestry in your Welcome pack) It will contain observations and photos of your child, pieces of art and your child’s next steps. Your will be able to add to this at any time via the mobile app.

Your child’s Key Person will also track your child’s progress, completing two written reports per year, these are shared with you on the mobile app and during parents evening.

Working together

Hayfield Pre-School recognizes parents as the first and most important educators of their children. We pride ourselves on being partners with parents in providing care and education for their children. There are many ways which parents can support your child’s learning at Hayfield Pre-School including:

  • Come along to one of our activity sessions- we offer half termly stay and play sessions, this enables you to spend time with your child in our setting and to see what we get up to. These sessions will include things like; Christmas craft, messy play and cooking.
  • Share something you do, we love having visitors to the Pre-School, sharing your job, or a hobby you enjoy any other ideas you have can be shared with your child’s Key person.
