Celebrating Easter Creativity

Last week, we had the pleasure of seeing all of the wonderful entries for the Easter Bonnet and egg decoration competition which was organised by our fabulous TOPs.

All of the children who entered did an egg-cellent job and Miss Priestley was given the job of judging the winners (it was an egg-tremely difficult job!)

Well done for your hard work and super creativity everybody!

CSI Maths Workshops

Delivered by as Creatives

On Thursday 15th March, we welcomed Zoe from as creatives to carry out whole school creative maths workshops.

Reception, year 1 and year 2 enjoyed the Storyland workshop:

With the help of the elves, the Shoemaker’s fortunes had been restored – and all was well in Storyland. Until, that is, his precious last was stolen! Which of his neighbours could have taken it? After using storytelling techniques to introduce pupils to the crime and the suspects, Zoe shared with them a range of clues left at the scene. They then used their sorting and numeracy skills to reveal the identity of the miscreant!

Was it Goldilocks, the Billy Goats Gruff, Little Miss Muffet, the Little Pigs or Red Riding Hood? It was up to us to find out!

Years 3 and 4 took part in the Michaela Maths workshop:

If it hadn’t been for the quick thinking of one of her teammates, Michaela Maths, one of Britain’s most promising young athletes, would be in serious danger – taken out by an unseen hand! The police were baffled by the dastardly deed – and wanted the children’s help in solving it. Having been introduced to the crime, the suspects and their possible motives, pupils  worked in teams on a carousel probing a range of mathematical skills. Taken together, these lead to the suspects being eliminated, one by one – until, if all the calculations were correct, the criminal was unmasked!

The whole day was practical and fun and the children thoroughly enjoyed putting their problem solving skills to the test.

Many thanks to TOPs for allowing us to use some of the money they have raised to pay for this wonderful whole school experience.
