Helen Tilney - Families’ Worker

Hi, my name is Helen and I’ve been the Families’ Worker at St Botolph’s Church in Barton Seagrave since September 2019. St Botolph’s Church is the oldest continually used building in the Kettering area and celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2020. The church has regular Sunday and mid-week services, and I plan and organise the children’s groups which meet every Sunday morning. Amongst other things, I also run a thriving baby and toddler group each Tuesday morning.

I came to live in Northamptonshire in 2007 with my husband, Graham and son, Rory.

As a child with a father in the Royal Air Force, I lived in places such as Singapore, Devon, and the Shetland Isles so my experiences have been many and varied! I have been going to church all my life and it has always been a privilege to serve and worship God wherever I lived; I am grateful that He has sustained me through it all.

After a career as a civil servant and personal assistant; I was thrilled to take on the challenge and joy of working for St Botolph’s Church – it’s honestly not like anything I’d done before but with God’s help I hope I am making a difference. Much of what I do involves working with a team of wonderful volunteers and I love to see each person fulfilling their role and making sure that everyone benefits.

Telling children (and adults) about Jesus when I visit schools or welcome groups into our church building is a fantastic part of my job and a real privilege. Children always ask such amazing (and sometimes tricky) questions which keeps me on my toes!

Thank you for such a warm welcome every time I visit Hayfield Cross!
